  Christian has the perfect family- Elsie, a sister three years older than him, a very successful CEO in Astra; an identical twin brother, Dorian, a talented aspiring actor; and a younger sister, Helena, a sweet and outgoing eleven-year-old with a bright future ahead of her. His parents are doting, on their children and each other, with well-paying jobs and a comfortably middle-class suburban lifestyle. They're the family who send out a greeting card every Christmas with a cheerfully festive photo of their family, all of whom have been blessed with good looks and charm- and this is the life Christian finds dreadfully, intolerably dull.
  
  He ran away frequently throughout his earlier childhood, returning only when his parents or, more frequently, his brother, found him. Aged fourteen he ran away again, properly this time and aided by Lucien Grey, a friend Christian had made in preparation for his escape. He and Dorian made it all the way to London, where they conned their way into a small flat in a dodgy street, and lived quite happily for six months until they were located and returned to their frantic parents.
  Lucien was, Christian feels, the first person to ever care about him, and the first person to consistently praise him for his achievements. Lucien convinced Christian to continue his education, and to try to experience life properly before seeking to end it. He now lives near to them, in a little flat that they rent for him in exchange for him continuing to attend college.
  
  Somewhere along the way, he discovered a talent for poetry, and began competing in poetry slams and other competitions, where he does well. His intention is to write poetry until his eventual, inevitable, death at a young age, no doubt of an overdose.
